A 19-2 run midway through the first half enabled the visiting Akron University Zips (5-1) to head into the half-time break with a comfortable 54-19 lead over Saint Peter's. The Peacocks (0-5) would trail by as many as 48 in the contest, at the 1:11 mark of the second half, before falling 103-57.
Kristal Edwards led Saint Peter's in scoring for the fifth straight game, recording 18 points, 9 of which came by way of the triple. Antonia Smith also finished in double-figures, managing a career-high 11 points on 3-5 shooting.
Saint Peter's briefly led 2-0, after netting the first basket of the game at 19:10, but the Zips tied the score 13 seconds later. Akron obtained a 4-2 lead, but the hosts knotted the count on a jumper by senior Jesika Holmes.
The Zips proceeded to score four straight points, to force Head Coach Stephanie DeWolfe to call an early timeout (16:45). Akron went on to out-score the hosts by a 8-2 margin over the following three minutes, paced by 8 points from Sina King. Junior Jesika Holmes accounted for all of Saint Peter's points during that time, with the exception of a two-point basket by Kristal Edwards.
Akron outscored the Peacocks 38-13 in the remainder of the half, with the hosts managing to connect on just 8 of 39 field goal attempts. For the half, Saint Peter's posted a 20.5% shooting percentage from the floor, 18.2% from beyond the arc. Akron meanwhile shot a torrid 51.4%, sinking 8 of 16 treys.
Saint Peter's was able to double their points from the first half in the second stanza, but the deficit proved too large to come back from. Additionally, the Peacocks were only outscored by 10 points in the stanza (49-38).
Overall, the Peacocks shot 27.8% from the floor (36.4%, second half), 26.1% from long distance. Akron shot 51.4%, 44%, respectively.
